Description

Welcome to Le Grand-Bornand, a welcoming motorhome area offering waste disposal and water refilling as well as free parking. Well served by ski-bus shuttles in summer and winter, it is ideally located to enjoy winter sports and a lively summer (hiking, mountain biking, paragliding, fishing); via ferrata and the famous Route des Grandes Alpes will delight cyclists, motorcyclists and drivers. Less than a kilometre away, the Forêt des Dodes offers a family treetop adventure park, and beautiful alpine lakes with turquoise waters invite swimming. The municipality has shops, restaurants and chalets for your provisions, and a local market takes place every Wednesday morning; in case of snow clearance, the municipal police may request vehicle relocation.

Tourisme

Le Grand-Bornand (Haute-Savoie, France)

Le Grand-Bornand is an alpine village centered on a living mountain terroir, perched in the Aravis range. A family resort, it combines a traditional village core and the Chinaillon resort up on the heights. The landscapes alternate between mountain pastures, forests and ridges, with clear views of the Pointe Percée and surrounding peaks. The range of activities changes with the seasons: skiing and snowshoeing in winter, hiking and paragliding in summer.

Nature and landscapes

The relief of the Aravis offers straightforward panoramas: high-altitude meadows, combes and ridgelines. Hikes often lead to cols and viewpoints providing a clear reading of the neighboring massifs. You encounter herds and alpine chalets whose silhouettes shape the pastoral landscape.

Outdoor activities and leisure

The Chinaillon area offers alpine slopes suited to families and zones for ski touring. Off-piste, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and sledging are practiced in winter, as well as Nordic walking, mountain biking and paragliding in the summer season. Local tourist offices provide information on waymarked routes and mountain guides.

Gastronomy and terroir

The valley is rooted in cheese production, notably Reblochon (AOP), found on many tables and farms. Alpine farms and small inns highlight simple, hearty Savoyard dishes made with local products.

Heritage and architecture

The village preserves a fabric of traditional wooden chalets, carved facades and shingle roofs. Urban development remains human-scaled, with some rural buildings and small chapels punctuating the road to the pastures.

Not to be missed

  • Le Chinaillon: resort and starting point for lifts and hikes.
  • Pointe Percée: iconic silhouette visible from the village.
  • Alpine farm: tasting and discovery of Reblochon (AOP).
  • Aravis ridge walks: panoramas and waymarked routes.
  • Local markets: regional products and Savoyard crafts.
