Description

Welcome to the Pont du Fossé motorhome area, in the heart of the Hautes‑Alpes in the La Petite Iscle area, ideally located near the Drac river and the Route Napoléon. On site: parking, electrical hookup, potable water supply and EURORELAIS emptying station for grey water and black water, with access protected by a rising barrier. A comfortably arranged pathway provides direct pedestrian access to the village of Pont du Fossé, where you will find shops, markets (Friday morning market and producers' market on Tuesday evenings in season) and local events. Enjoy a pastoral setting of bocage and the mountains of the Champsaur, a strong cultural identity (events such as Retour du Monde and L’Écho des Mots) and regional specialties like tourtons, homemade ravioles and cheeses — perfect for solo travelers, families or friends.

Tourisme

Saint-Jean-Saint-Nicolas (Hautes-Alpes, France)

Mountain village set in the heart of the Dévoluy massif, Saint-Jean-Saint-Nicolas offers a rural setting marked by rocky ridges and alpine pastures. The landscape alternates high-altitude grasslands, sparse forests and stone hamlets. One senses a village life paced by the seasons: transhumance, summer hikes and winter snow activities. The terrain makes access to wide open spaces easy while remaining attached to local traditions visible in vernacular architecture.

Nature and landscapes

The area is directly shaped by the relief of the Dévoluy, with mineral panoramas typical of the Prealps. Hiking trails and viewpoints allow observation of high-altitude grasslands and hollows. The light and geology make photo outings particularly interesting, especially at sunrise and sunset.

Outdoor activities

Proximity to the Superdévoluy and La Joue du Loup resorts facilitates access to alpine skiing, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing in winter. In summer, mountain biking, climbing and hiking dominate; several waymarked routes leave the village toward nearby cols and plateaus. Families also find easy walks around the hamlets.

Heritage and architecture

The village preserves traditional stone houses and barns, with lauze or tile roofs depending on altitude. A parish church and several small rural chapels punctuate the hamlets, witnesses to an old mountain habitation.

Local gastronomy

The table highlights mountain products: cured meats, hearty dishes and especially mountain cheeses and tommes made in the region. Markets and some farms offer local products to discover.

Not to miss

  • Superdévoluy: ski area and access point for winter activities.
  • La Joue du Loup: neighbouring resort for skiing and family leisure.
  • Sentiers du Dévoluy: hiking routes to plateaus and ridges.
  • Houses and rural chapels: examples of traditional architecture.
  • Farm products: cheeses and cured meats sold locally.
