La Porte du Der (Haute-Marne, France)
La Porte du Der is located on the shores of the large body of water of Lac du Der-Chantecoq, a stretch of water and beaches that structures the area. A rural commune in the northeast of Haute‑Marne, it offers a contrast between open landscapes and quiet villages. The area attracts visitors for birdwatching, water activities and cycling. There is a countryside atmosphere renewed by nature tourism.
Nature and landscapes
The territory opens onto Lac du Der-Chantecoq, one of the largest artificial lakes in Europe, and its reed-lined shores. Plains, meadows and copses favor the presence of migratory birds, notably the common cranes in autumn and winter. Wide light and sunsets over the water are characteristic.
Outdoor activities and leisure
Water sports (sailing, windsurfing, kayaking) and swimming on arranged beaches are offered around the lake. The network of cycle paths and footpaths allows discovery of the dam, birdwatching observatories and the countryside in complete tranquility. Anglers benefit from accessible zones and fish-rich waters.
Atmosphere and way of life
The place retains village life: local markets, small inns and farm products. The proximity of Champagne influences local gastronomy without obscuring the Champenois and Lorraine specialties found in shops and guest tables.
