Cavaillon (Vaucluse, France)
Cavaillon stretches at the foot of the Luberon massif, in the south of Vaucluse. A medium-sized town, it combines a compact old center with more recent neighborhoods. There is a strong link with the neighboring Provençal countryside: orchards, fields and nearby hills. Cavaillon also serves as a practical base for exploring the perched villages and surrounding natural sites.
Heritage and history
The historic heart preserves medieval traces visible in its lanes and some religious remains. The Cathedral of Notre-Dame-et-Saint-Véran dominates the center with its silhouette and Romanesque-Gothic character. Portions of former ramparts and old houses recall the town's role as a local stronghold over the centuries.
Nature and landscapes
The position facing the Luberon offers views of the ridges and hiking routes at short distance. The surrounding plains are occupied by orchards and market-gardening crops, visible from rural roads. Cavaillon is also a good base for bike rides between typical villages and wooded hills.
Gastronomy and market
Cavaillon is world-renowned for the Cavaillon melon, an emblematic fruit found on market stalls. The local market, frequent and colorful, offers fruits, vegetables, Provençal products and artisans. The wines from nearby appellations, such as Côtes du Luberon, pair well with local cuisine.
