Description

Welcome to Les Grands Bosquets, a motorhome area in Châteaugiron (Intercommunal campsite Les Grands Bosquets), about 20 minutes from Rennes. You will find a disposal point for grey and black water combined with a potable water supply point, as well as parking spaces and electrical hookups, all surrounded by natural shaded areas, a short walk from the waterfront and the historic centre. Sanitary facilities are available in the summer season; pets are welcome if kept on a leash and up to date with vaccinations. Enjoy the town centre and the Univer shopping centre, the weekly Thursday morning market on Place des Gâtes and the Wednesday evening market in Ossé, as well as walks and activities around the ponds of Châteaugiron, Ossé and Saint-Aubin-du-Pavail, the Crapa trail and the La Glaume natural site. The local cultural and community life (sports, music, art centre, cinema) nicely complements your stay.

Tourisme

Châteaugiron (Ille-et-Vilaine, France)

Châteaugiron is a small medieval town located about twenty kilometers southeast of Rennes. It features a compact historic center where fortified remains mix with half-timbered houses. The municipality retains a provincial atmosphere animated by local shops and easy walks. It is a popular entry point for exploring the surrounding bocage and Breton countryside.

Heritage and history

The silhouette of the Château de Châteaugiron still dominates the town: keep, walls and remains attest to a feudal past visible from the streets. The town center preserves narrow streets and old facades, offering a vivid glimpse of urban development from the Middle Ages to the modern era. Panels and historical walks make discovery easier for visitors.

Architecture and old town

The center features many half-timbered houses and carved lintels. The ramparts and remaining towers structure the urban landscape and offer viewpoints over the town. Local architecture combines stone and wood, typical of inland Breton market towns.

Nature and landscapes

Around Châteaugiron stretches a rolling bocage, suitable for walks on foot or by bike. Rural paths connect farms, hedgerows and small watercourses, offering a sense of space close to the center. It is also a good starting point for discovering the Ille‑et‑Vilaine countryside.

Not to miss

  • Château de Châteaugiron: fortified remains and keep in the heart of the town.
  • Historic center: medieval streets and half-timbered houses.
  • Ramparts: routes and viewpoints over the town.
  • Bocage walks: trails for walking and cycling around the commune.
