Marcillac-Vallon (Aveyron, France)
Marcillac-Vallon is a village in the Dourdou valley, set on the hillsides of southern Aveyron. It is mainly known for its vineyard and local appellation, but also offers a rural landscape marked by limestone hills and small hamlets. The town center retains an Occitan village atmosphere, pleasant for a tasting stop or a short hike. Hospitality remains simple and focused on local products.
Patrimoine et histoire
The village features traditional stone buildings, with narrow lanes and old houses that attest to medieval and modern rural occupation. There are elements of religious architecture and restored farms integrated into the wine-growing landscape. Local history is closely linked to vine cultivation and trade routes between valleys.
Gastronomie et vins
Marcillac is especially famous for the appellation Marcillac AOC, carried by independent winemakers and collective structures. The dominant grape is Fer Servadou (Mansois), which yields fruity and spicy red wines. Tastings and on-site purchases allow discovery of local cuvées often little exported.
Nature et paysages
The valley offers panoramas alternating terraced vineyards, groves and limestone cliffs. Trails and small roads allow walks or bike rides, ideal for observing agricultural landscapes and high-altitude Mediterranean flora.
