Description

The Camping Area of Lac de Joux at Rocheray 37, 1347 Le Sentier (Le Chenit) offers a convenient and friendly stopover for motorhome users: a waste-disposal point close to the pitches, on-site potable water refill service and dedicated parking. About 150 m from the lakeshore, you are within walking distance of swimming, windsurfing and hiking and cycling trails, all set in a natural environment between the lake and the mountains of the Vallée de Joux. The area is separate from the pitches managed by the campsite; immediate shops (bakery, petrol station, supermarket, tobacco shop, pharmacy) and a local market every Thursday morning on the Grand’Rue in Le Sentier. For arrival and night navigation, look for the locality Rocheray; more information on the campsite website.

Tourisme

Le Chenit (District du Jura‑Nord vaudois, Suisse)

Le Chenit stretches in the heart of the Vallée de Joux, in the Jura range, and brings together several mountain villages with complementary atmospheres. The municipality is known for its high-altitude landscapes, glacial lakes and its identity tied to watchmaking. Winters are long and favor Nordic sports; summers offer calm forests and meadows. It is a territory that combines preserved nature and artisanal know‑how.

Heritage and watchmaking

The valley is one of the historical centers of haute horlogerie suisse. There are workshops and manufactures that have shaped the local industrial landscape since the 18th century. The built heritage remains discreet: stone and wood houses, small museums and mountain farms testify to this artisanal tradition.

Nature and landscapes

The Lac de Joux occupies a large part of the landscape, bordered by forests and pastures. In winter, the frozen lake becomes a vast white area suitable for walks and skating when conditions allow. The surrounding hills and forests offer viewpoints over the Jura massif and allow for beautiful hikes.

Outdoor activities

The municipality offers a network of ski de fond trails, hiking paths and mountain bike routes. Wildlife watching, lake fishing and snowshoe walks are common activities. Villages such as Le Brassus, Le Sentier and L'Abbaye serve as practical bases for exploring the valley.

Not to be missed

  • Lac de Joux: walks by the water and landscapes that change with the seasons.
  • Le Brassus: center of watchmaking activities and showcases of manufactures.
  • Musée du Brassus: exhibitions related to local history and watchmaking (check opening hours).
  • Pistes de ski de fond: marked network for all levels in winter.
  • Sentiers de la Vallée de Joux: hikes and viewpoints over the Jura.
