Touvre (Charente, France)
Touvre is a small Charente commune known mainly for its clear waters and natural setting. The village developed around the Touvre river, whose karst springs feed crystalline basins. The site attracts walkers, anglers and naturalists seeking preserved nature just outside Angoulême. There is a peaceful rural atmosphere, between wetlands, meadows and typical stone houses.
Nature and landscapes
The sources of the Touvre form a set of very transparent resurgences, punctuated by reedbeds and shaded banks. These cold waters support a rich aquatic fauna, notably populations of trout and indicator invertebrates of good ecological quality. The contrasts between flowing waters and groves offer changing viewpoints depending on the season.
Outdoor activities
The banks of the Touvre invite walking, observation and fly fishing when local regulations allow. Waymarked paths make it possible to explore the valley and reach nearby hamlets. The place is also suitable for family outings for picnics and nature photography.
Cuisine and local products
Proximity to the Charente is reflected in a simple, terroir-based culinary offer. In the area you can find emblematic products such as Cognac and Pineau des Charentes, as well as local cheeses and cured meats served in small eateries and nearby markets.
