Pleumeur-Bodou (Côtes-d'Armor, France)
Pleumeur-Bodou is a Breton commune located on the coast of the Bay of Lannion. It is best known for its role in the history of telecommunications and for its varied coastline. The area mixes agricultural zones, traditional hamlets and granite cliffs opening onto the sea. It is a destination suited to fans of technical history as well as coastal hikers.
Heritage and history
The most characteristic site is the radôme of Pleumeur-Bodou, a remnant of the first transatlantic satellite links of the 1960s. Around it, the Cité des Télécoms presents the evolution of communications and helps explain the site's importance. In the village there are also chapels and traditional houses, witnesses to Breton rural life in the 19th century.
Nature and landscapes
The coast offers changing landscapes: granite cliffs, coves and beaches that open onto the Bay of Lannion. The GR34 (customs officers' trail) crosses the commune and allows pleasant walks with sea views. Following the coast, one can observe coastal wildlife and panoramas of the nearby archipelago in clear weather.
Outdoor activities and leisure
The commune offers opportunities for walking, cycling and sea observation. The beaches and inlets are suitable for walks at low tide, and nautical activities are offered in the neighboring area (kayak, paddle), organized by coastal facilities. The rural calm also invites discovery by bike of the small hamlets.
