Havrincourt (Pas-de-Calais, France)
Havrincourt is a small rural village in Pas-de-Calais on the edge of the Picard plateau. The modern village results from reconstruction after the destructions of the First World War; the memory of the battlefields is still present. The area is organized around the Vallée du Bois and the route of the Canal du Nord, which passes nearby. Far from major tourist flows, Havrincourt offers a peaceful countryside appreciated for walks and local history.
Heritage and history
The village bears the traces of the 1917–1918 fighting and several graves and memorials recall these events. The parish church, rebuilt in the 20th century, illustrates post-war reconstruction architecture. There are also steles and interpretation panels that place Havrincourt in the context of the offensives on the Western Front.
Nature and landscapes
The meadows, hedgerows and small woods around the village form a classic agricultural landscape of the Nord-Pas-de-Calais. The Canal du Nord, very nearby, creates tranquil banks suitable for walking and birdwatching. Country routes offer viewpoints over cereal plains and bocage.
Outdoor activities and leisure
The region is well suited to cycling and hiking on little-used paths. Nearby, some tourist facilities such as a golf course installed around a château estate attract visitors seeking peace and outdoor leisure. Neighboring villages complement the offer for heritage circuits.
