Description

Welcome to the Merville-Franceville-Plage motorhome area, in the heart of the Côte Fleurie and bordering the Orne estuary: six equipped pitches open year-round, perfectly sized for a comfortable setup. You will find disposal points for grey and black water as well as a drinking water supply point, and the immediate proximity of essential shops (bakery, service station, supermarket, tobacco shop, pharmacy). A few kilometres from Cabourg and about fifteen kilometres from Caen, between the Caen plain and the Pays d’Auge, the area offers direct access to protected dunes and natural spaces — a well-known kitesurfing spot in Normandy — with a weekly market on Thursday mornings and a Sunday evening market in summer (17:00–22:00).

Tourisme

Merville-Franceville-Plage (Calvados, France)

Merville-Franceville-Plage is a Norman seaside resort with wide stretches of sand and a family-friendly atmosphere. The beach stretches for several kilometers, popular for swimming, long walks and water sports. The village remains quiet off-season, with local shops and summer markets. Its location between the sea and wetlands offers a nice variety of nature activities and historical remembrance.

Heritage and history

The area still shows notable traces of World War II, with remnants of coastal batteries and military installations visible in the landscape. The small local heritage — seaside villas and period buildings — attests to the tourist boom of the early 20th century. Panels and local museums present the historical context without exaggeration.

Nature and landscapes

To the east and north of the town stretch marshes and lagoons that attract many bird species. The alternation of mudflats, salt meadows and dunes creates changing panoramas according to the tide. Walks on foot or by bike along the coast make it possible to observe migratory wildlife and the shades of the bay.

Outdoor activities

The beach is suitable for kitesurfing, windsurfing and beach games when the wind is favorable. Families find calm areas for supervised swimming in season. Coastal paths invite jogging, strolling and landscape photography.

Gastronomy and conviviality

Local cuisine highlights seafood and Norman classics: shellfish, fish, cider and calvados. Markets and some family-run restaurants offer fresh produce and regional specialties.

Not to miss

  • La Batterie de Merville: remains and a museum explaining the coastal fortifications.
  • La plage de Merville: a vast sandbank for swimming and water activities.
  • The marsh reserve: observatories for birdwatching and nature walks.
  • The seaside villas: an architectural stroll along the waterfront.
  • Local markets: fresh produce and Norman specialties in season.
