Tourisme

Aÿ-Champagne (Marne, France)

Aÿ-Champagne is a municipality of the Champagne wine region, centered around the town of Aÿ and nearby villages. Its landscape is dominated by rows of vines classified as Grand Cru, cultivated for centuries to produce renowned champagnes. The territory is part of the region's historic core, where cellars and wine trading houses coexist with slopes shaped by vine cultivation. People come as much to taste as to understand vine work and the local winemaking history.

Heritage and history

The local heritage testifies to the antiquity of Champagne cultivation. The slopes, vine rows and underground cellars are part of an agricultural and industrial continuity. Aÿ is included in the ensemble listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site under the name "Coteaux, Maisons et Caves de Champagne", recognizing its role in the history of sparkling wine.

Gastronomy and wines

The municipality is famous for its champagne houses, including Bollinger, which operate cellars and offer tours and tastings. Wines produced here often show ripe, structured profiles suited to Champagne blends. Tasting venues allow discussion of winemaking methods and the importance of the Grand Cru terroir.

Nature and landscapes

The slopes offer terraces of vines and views over the Marne valley. Paths and small roads cross the plots, ideal for walks or bike rides between villages and viewpoints.
