Chamrousse (Isère, France)
Chamrousse is a mountain resort nestled in the Belledonne range, about thirty kilometers from Grenoble. It combines an established winter offering with alpine panoramas accessible in summer. The site is known for slopes designed for skiing, high-altitude plateaus and mountain lakes where nature remains preserved. There is a family-friendly atmosphere and varied routes for all levels.
Heritage and history
Chamrousse gained international visibility as the venue for alpine skiing events during the 1968 Winter Olympic Games in Grenoble. The resort has retained traces of that period in its piste layout and infrastructure. Local small heritage is evident in the high-altitude chalets and some typical mountain constructions of the Isère.
Nature and landscapes
The landscape is dominated by the ridge and forests of the Belledonne, with views of the Vercors massif and the Grésivaudan valley in clear weather. The high-altitude meadows and lakes, notably Lac Achard, offer viewpoints suitable for hiking and photography. Mountain biodiversity is visible depending on the seasons: alpine flora and cliff-dwelling birds.
Outdoor activities and leisure
In winter, the Chamrousse resort offers alpine skiing, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing in areas suited to families. In summer, the trail network welcomes hikers and mountain bikers; some paths also allow gentle mountaineering toward the ridges. The proximity to Grenoble makes day trips easy.
