Erquy (Côtes-d'Armor, France)
Erquy is a port and seaside resort on the Penthièvre coast, known for its wild shoreline and maritime activity. The village combines sandy beaches, cliffs and fishing quarters. You can feel the influence of the sea in daily life: markets, stone workshops and boatings. It is a popular stop on the coastal path but also a starting point for exploring nearby headlands.
Heritage and history
Erquy harbor preserves an open fishing tradition, notably the catching of scallops (coquille Saint‑Jacques), which shapes the local economy. The built environment includes fishermen's houses and facades in pink sandstone quarried nearby; this material has contributed to the village's architectural charm. The seafront and small center show traces of continuous maritime activity for several centuries.
Nature and landscapes
The Cap d'Erquy offers pinkish cliffs, sheltered coves and panoramas over the Bay of Saint‑Brieuc. The customs officers' path (GR34) runs along the coast and offers walks between moorland, rock outcrops and beaches, accessible in short stages. The variety of habitats favors observation of seabirds and a typical coastal flora.
Outdoor activities and leisure
Fine sandy beaches, sailing schools and coastal paths allow swimming, hiking and water sports. The port hosts fishing boats and coastal excursions; shore fishing is possible depending on the tides. Photography enthusiasts will find varied compositions at sunrise and sunset.
