Description

Welcome to the Magné (Deux-Sèvres) boaters' area: a fixed wooden pier 30 m by 2 m, equipped with a single terminal combining electrical power and drinking water for simple and convenient provisioning. Magné, whose place name derives from the Latin magnus and is linked to an ancient Roman family, nestles between the Sèvre Niortaise and the Sevreau, crossed by four bridges — including the metal drawbridge, the most emblematic, witness to the golden age of river trade in the 19th century and the exports of local pottery. The pottery industry, once fed by "bri marin", the marsh clay, has given way to a lively cultural life: local exhibitions and an international painting festival gathering about 300 artists each third weekend of July, a festival that claims first place in France for this type of event.

Tourisme

Magné (Deux-Sèvres, France)

Magné is a small rural commune located in the heart of the Marais Poitevin, in the Deux-Sèvres department. The village offers a landscape dominated by canals, wet meadows and well-established agriculture. It is a quiet place, appreciated for its proximity to Niort and for marsh-related activities. People come for the nature, slow walks and the typical rural atmosphere of Poitou.

Nature and landscapes

The landscape of Magné is characterized by the canals of the Marais Poitevin, patches of greenery and banks lined with hawthorns. Sunrises and sunsets over the water transform the marsh into a changing scenery. A wide variety of birds and vegetation specific to wetlands are often observed.

The paths and small country roads invite hiking and cycle touring. Boat rides, offered in neighboring communes, remain a preferred way to discover the peaceful channels and the marsh's biodiversity. Fishing and birdwatching are also common activities.

Heritage and local life

The village preserves a simple rural architecture: farms, small houses and the traditional parish church of the area. Local life revolves around farms and nearby markets where fresh produce is found. Small village festivals punctuate the seasons, reflecting Poitou traditions.
