Description

On the road leading to Bourgueil municipal campsite, a self-service utility point welcomes you in the Parc de loisirs Capitaine for electrical hookups, waste water emptying (black and grey water) and water resupply — it is possible to plug equipment directly into the point. Parking in the space at the utility point is strictly forbidden overnight; to spend the night you can go to the neighboring campsite or a motorhome area a little further on (without a service point). The park offers free access to the beach, the park and the playground, a picnic area with restrooms, a snack bar and a mini-golf nearby, while swimming is supervised and water activities are offered in high season. The town center and shops of Bourgueil are about 600 m away, an Hyper U about 800 m, and the market takes place Tuesday morning at Place des Halles and Saturday morning under the halls.

Tourisme

Bourgueil (Indre-et-Loire, France)

Bourgueil is a small winegrowing town in the Loire Valley, known mainly for its vineyards and rural character. The village preserves a traditional appearance, with quiet streets and tuffeau stone houses. The commune lies within a large area of hillsides and troglodyte cellars where wine has shaped the landscape. Close to the historic town of Chinon, Bourgueil serves as a stopover for wine and nature lovers.

Heritage and history

The terroir has made the area famous for several centuries: winemaking there is documented since the Middle Ages. The heart of the village features old architectural elements and traces of an agricultural past marked by family farms. In the surroundings there are also troglodyte cellars dug into the tuffeau, traditionally used for ageing and storing wines.

Gastronomy and wines

Bourgueil is famous for the appellation Bourgueil (AOP), mainly based on Cabernet Franc. The wines range from lightly fruity to more structured versions depending on age and terroir. Several estates and cellars offer tastings and direct sales. Local cuisine highlights farm products and regional cheeses.

Nature and landscapes

The slopes overlooking the Loire offer pleasant walks among rows of vines and hedgerows. The banks of the Loire, not far away, are ideal for walks or cycling and offer open views of the river and the surrounding Touraine countryside.

Not to be missed

  • The troglodyte cellars: visits and discoveries of wine ageing conditions.
  • Bourgueil (AOP) tasting: at local winemakers to understand the styles.
  • Walk along the Loire: river landscapes and cycling routes.
  • Bourgueil wine route: circuits between estates to compare terroirs.
  • Proximity to Chinon: a short cultural excursion.
