Description

Welcome to the motorhome service area of Montmeyan, a charming village perched on a rocky promontory in the Var (PACA). About 200 m from the centre, on the edge of a quiet road, the area offers electrical hookup, parking, wastewater emptying and water refill on a surface shared between asphalt and sand. You will find recycling bins at ~50 m and shops at ~200 m (Vival convenience store, restaurant, pizzeria, butcher). On site, enjoy outdoor fitness equipment, picnic tables, a zip line, children's playgrounds, a pétanque court and a tennis court; the village is organized around a small lake with an equestrian centre and a water sports base for on-water activities. Between prehistoric remains and the Prehistory museum, and not forgetting local festivals and protected natural areas, Montmeyan offers a welcoming stop full of discoveries.

Tourisme

Montmeyan (Var, France)

Montmeyan is a small perched village in the Haut-Var, set on a limestone promontory between plains and hills. The town preserves a medieval layout with narrow streets and stone façades that tell of its rural past. The approach to the village often offers open views over the Provençal countryside and, in clear weather, toward more distant features of the Verdon Regional Natural Park. The place charms with its calm and authentic atmosphere, appreciated by heritage and nature enthusiasts.

Heritage and history

One can spot remains of medieval occupation and traditional rural buildings. The streets retain traces of the village’s old organization, with doors and vaulted passages. Local history is read in the stone rather than in large museums, making the visit intimate and contemplative.

Architecture and village atmosphere

Stone houses, thick walls and tiled roofs give the village a visually coherent, typically Provençal look. The alleys invite slow strolling, punctuated by small sundials or modest signs. The atmosphere remains village-like: quiet in the morning, gentler in the late afternoon when the light highlights the ochres and beiges of the façades.

Nature and outdoor activities

The surroundings offer hiking trails and mountain bike tracks that allow exploration of the garrigue, oak groves and nearby valleys. The village is also a convenient starting point for excursions to natural sites in the Haut-Var and routes around the Verdon.

Not to be missed

  • Medieval village — stroll through the alleys and discover the local architecture.
  • Panoramic viewpoint — view over the Var countryside from the promontory.
  • Parish church — visit the building that punctuates the heart of the village.
  • Hiking trails — loops accessible from the village, on foot or by mountain bike.
  • Markets and local products — oils, herbs and Provençal specialties depending on the season.
