Tourisme

Val-Couesnon (Ille-et-Vilaine, France)

Val-Couesnon is a rural new commune located on the border between Brittany and Normandy. Created in 2019, it is organized around small villages and bocage valleys crossed by the river Couesnon. The territory offers a mix of bocage landscapes, meadows and approaches to the Mont-Saint-Michel bay, easily reachable by car. It is a quiet place, suitable for nature stays and themed walks.

Heritage and history

Local heritage is visible in the granite villages, calvaries and small parish churches. There are also well-preserved old houses and traces of traditional rural life. Some historical elements recall the importance of the roads between Rennes and the Mont-Saint-Michel bay.

Nature and landscapes

The landscapes are dominated by bocage and the valley of the Couesnon, punctuated by hedgerows, meadows and small streams. To the west, the plain opens onto the Mont-Saint-Michel bay, prized for its large tides and birdwatching. The panoramas change greatly with the seasons and the light.

Outdoor activities

The local network of paths allows for long walks on foot, by bike or on horseback. The proximity of the bay favors guided hikes on the sands and the discovery of wetlands. River fishing, birdwatching and family walks are common activities.

Gastronomy and atmosphere

Local cuisine mixes Breton products and Norman influences: galettes, cider, cheeses and seafood if you go to the nearby coast. Village markets offer a friendly atmosphere and seasonal local products.

Not to be missed

  • Mont-Saint-Michel: a must-see visit to the bay, about twenty kilometers away.
  • Couesnon: walks along the river and bocage landscapes.
  • Antrain: historic chief town with local shops and starting points for walks.
  • Baie du Mont-Saint-Michel: tide and bird observation.
  • Local footpaths: routes for hikers and cyclists.
