Description

Welcome to the Vielle-Aure motorhome area (Hautes-Pyrénées): a friendly parking spot offering waste-emptying, water refill, electrical hookups and an electronic display of available spaces. Ideal for exploring the Aure Valley — labelled Pays d’Art et d’Histoire — you are steps from the village’s picturesque streets, the Saint-Pierre chapel of Agos and the Saint-Barthélemy church, and close to the Piau-Engaly and Saint-Lary-Soulan resorts. To the west, the Néouvielle national reserve invites hiking among clear lakes and preserved landscapes, and the valley, 20 km from Spain, combines sporting activities and moments of tranquillity. Also enjoy local flavours — garbure béarnaise, spit cake, tarbais bean and Bigorre black pork — as well as events and guided tours that enrich the local heritage.

Tourisme

Vielle-Aure (Hautes-Pyrénées, France)

Vielle-Aure is a traditional village perched in the Vallée d'Aure, in the heart of the Pyrenees. It offers a mix of rural calm and quick access to mountain resorts. Stone houses and slate roofs reflect a restrained local architecture. It is a convenient starting point for summer hiking and for reaching nearby ski areas in winter.

Heritage and architecture

The village preserves typical Pyrenean village buildings, with stone facades and slate roofs. Narrow lanes and the small central square retain a human scale. One feels the valley's rural history, marked by agriculture and transhumant pastoralism.

Nature and landscapes

Vielle-Aure opens onto mountain panoramas and high-altitude meadows. Wooded slopes and surrounding alpine pastures compose views that change with the seasons. The proximity of mountain passes and routes makes access to panoramic viewpoints easy.

Outdoor activities

The village's location makes it a good base camp for hiking, mountain biking and nature outings. Nearby are waymarked routes and circuits to high-altitude lakes. In winter, the valley's ski areas are easily reachable for alpine skiing and ski touring.

Gastronomy and local products

Local cuisine highlights rustic mountain dishes such as garbure and valley cheeses. Small surrounding farms often offer farm products according to the seasons. Valley markets allow tasting of specialties and artisanal products.
