Description
Tourisme
Erquy (Côtes-d'Armor, France)
Erquy is a small port town on the Pink Granite Coast of the English Channel. Its appearance comes from the juxtaposition of pink sandstone cliffs, protected dunes and an active fishing port. The presence of the scallop strongly influences the local economy and gastronomy. It is a destination appreciated for coastal walks, sandy beaches and a tangible maritime atmosphere.
Heritage and history
The landscape recalls the historical exploitation of pink sandstone quarries that shaped the cliffs and local buildings. The lively port retains a fishing-village identity: trawlers and small boats still land seafood. Traces of a strong maritime past can be read in the quays and some traditional houses in the center.
Nature and landscapes
The Cap d'Erquy offers colorful cliffs and views over the Bay of Saint-Brieuc. The dunes and moorland that extend the coast form a changing backdrop depending on the tides and light. The coastal path (GR34) crosses these areas and allows discovery of coves, rocky points and sea panoramas without long uncertainties.
Outdoor activities
Erquy Beach and La Fresnaye Beach are suitable for swimming, land yachting and family strolls. The bay also facilitates sailing and sea outings to observe the coast. Shore fishing and birdwatching walks are common on the foreshore and in the dune areas.
Gastronomy
The scallop is the local specialty: it can be found fresh at the port and in coastal restaurants. Stalls also offer fish and shellfish, to be enjoyed simply to taste the maritime terroir.
