Les Vigneaux (Hautes-Alpes, France)
Les Vigneaux is an unassuming alpine village located in the valley of the Guisane, near the peaks of the Écrins massif. A human-scale village, it often serves as a quiet base for exploring the surrounding valleys and nearby mountain resorts. The atmosphere remains rural: farms, chalets and pastures alternate with hamlets and trails. It is easily accessible from Briançon and the mountain pass road.
Heritage and history
The village preserves traditional mountain architecture: stone houses with slate roofs, agricultural workshops and old dry stone walls. The village church, sundials and a few typical mas testify to a pastoral past marked by livestock farming and mountain life. Local history is visible in the layout of the hamlets and cultivated terraces.
Nature and landscapes
The panoramas open onto the glaciers and needles of the Écrins, with viewpoints over ridges and mountain undulations. The Guisane runs through the commune, offering riverbanks and small wetlands where alpine flora can be seen. Seasonal contrasts make the landscape very changeable, from the green of the meadows to winter snow.
Outdoor activities
The area is suitable for hiking, mountain biking and mountaineering for more committed routes. In winter, the proximity of the Serre Chevalier resort makes access to slopes and Nordic activities easy. Hiking routes depart directly from the village towards mountain passes and high-altitude lakes.
Don't miss
- Parc national des Écrins: gateways to high mountain routes.
- Serre Chevalier: ski area and winter recreation within short distance.
- La Guisane: natural corridor and valley river, pleasant for walks.
- Col du Lautaret: panoramic access to alpine landscapes and a passage point to other valleys.
- Pelvoux: nearby village and massif, starting point for many hikes.
