Description

Welcome to the Campan motorhome area, located in the Morère district, just steps from the 11 ha artificial lake — a site accessible year-round offering a remarkable view of the Pic du Midi. You will find a 24/7 welcome terminal and a dedicated area for waste emptying and water replenishment, as well as convenient parking spaces. Situated in the heart of a valley surrounded by mountains, fir forests and large plateaus — the “little Canada of the Pyrenees” — the area invites you to enjoy a wild setting where dog sledding and Nordic activities are practiced in winter (cross-country skiing, sledding, snowshoeing) and hiking, horseback riding, cani-hiking, fishing or devalkart in summer. Whether you are passing through or staying longer, you will find a warm starting point here to explore the Haute-Bigorre in all seasons.

Tourisme

Campan (Hautes-Pyrénées, France)

Campan is a mountain village nestled in the Campan valley, between the ridges of the Hautes-Pyrénées. The town serves as a gateway to famous passes and alpine panoramas. There is still visible agricultural practice, stone houses and roads that attract hikers and cyclists. The setting remains authentic, with dominant nature and suitable tourist services.

Heritage and history

The village preserves traditional stone and slate buildings, typical of the Pyrenean valleys. Old paths connect Campan to neighboring hamlets; they reflect a long pastoral activity that still shapes the landscape. Local archives and some public buildings recall the changes linked to mountain tourism in the 20th century.

Nature and landscapes

The valley offers panoramas of the surrounding peaks and wide high-altitude meadows. Beech and pine forests descend close to the village, suitable for easy walks. The viewpoints often reveal the Pic du Midi de Bigorre, which dominates the region.

Outdoor activities

Campan is a convenient starting point for hiking, mountain biking and cycling, notably to reach road passes. In winter, nearby resorts offer ski slopes and snow activities. The variety of routes allows short outings as well as day excursions.

Gastronomy and atmosphere

Local cuisine highlights mountain products: farmhouse cheeses, cured meats and simple, hearty dishes. The village atmosphere remains friendly, focused on the mountain and the rhythm of the seasons.

Not to be missed

  • Col du Tourmalet: legendary Tour de France ascent and panoramic ridge views.
  • Pic du Midi de Bigorre: observatory and spectacular views over the Pyrenean range.
  • La Mongie: nearby ski resort, access to winter domains.
  • Vallée de Campan: pastoral trails and characteristic mountain landscapes.
