Description

Welcome to the motorhome area of La Salvetat‑sur‑Agout, nestled in the former Blaquière campsite in the heart of the Haut‑Languedoc Regional Natural Park (alt. ~875 m) — the town named after the “sauveté”, the place that saves. You will find secure parking, wastewater emptying and water filling, electrical hookups and access to sanitary facilities, all just steps from shops and the village center. An ideal starting point for the Plateau des Lacs, the Caroux‑Espinouse massif and on a historic pilgrimage route to Compostela. At ~2 km, the Blue Flag beaches and nautical bases (Bouldouïres: supervised swimming, pedal boats, canoes, paddleboards, water skiing) or the charming Gua des Brasses invite swimming and picnics. The “Terre Saine Objectif zéro phyto” and “Station verte de vacances” labels guarantee respectful nature tourism. Welcomed by Salvetois attached to traditions, enjoy artisanal charcuterie, goat, sheep and cow cheeses, local honeys and wild harvests (berries, mushrooms) to fully taste the region.

Tourisme

La Salvetat-sur-Agout (Hérault, France)

La Salvetat-sur-Agout is a mountain village nestled in the Monts de Lacaune, in the heart of the Haut-Languedoc Regional Natural Park. Set along the Agout river, the town serves as a gateway to a rich area of lakes, forests and granite plateaus. The atmosphere remains rural and nature-oriented, popular with families and hikers. There are local shops, seasonal markets and an active community life in summer.

Heritage and architecture

The village preserves an old core with granite houses and stone-slab roofs, typical of the southern Massif Central. The parish church, the central square and some characterful houses evoke the pastoral age of the territory. Guesthouses and renovated chalets often respect the local building traditions.

Nature and landscapes

The landscape is dominated by beech and conifer forests, moorland and high-altitude peatlands. Several viewpoints offer panoramas over the valleys of the Agout and the surrounding ridges. Nearby lakes, including Lac de la Raviège and Lac du Laouzas, punctuate the terrain and attract walkers and photographers.

Outdoor activities

The destination offers a waymarked network of hiking and mountain bike trails, loops for Nordic walking and trail running routes. The lakes allow swimming, kayaking and fishing depending on the season. In winter, the modest altitudes favor quiet nature outings rather than intensive snow sports.

Gastronomy and atmosphere

Local cuisine highlights mountain products: farmhouse cheeses, artisanal cured meats and rustic dishes. Summer markets showcase local producers and create a friendly atmosphere conducive to meeting people.

Not to be missed

  • Haut-Languedoc Regional Natural Park: access points and exploration trails.
  • Lac de la Raviège: beaches, swimming and watersports.
  • Lac du Laouzas: walks around the water and fishing spots.
  • Waymarked MTB loops: routes suitable for several levels.
  • Local market (seasonal): farm products and crafts.
