Brionne (Eure, France)
Brionne is a small town in the valley of the Risle, in the heart of the Pays d’Ouche in Normandy. Its center retains the atmosphere of an old market town, with narrow streets and half-timbered houses that reflect a medieval and rural past. The river shapes the landscape and offers a peaceful setting for walks. Its proximity to routes toward Évreux and Bernay makes it a convenient stop to discover the Norman countryside.
Heritage and architecture
The town center features numerous half-timbered houses lined along the streets, typical of the region. There is a traditional wooden market hall — a place for markets and local life — as well as façades and lintels that recall the town's commercial history. The streets mix vernacular architecture and small religious buildings embedded in the urban fabric.
Nature and landscapes
The Risle runs through Brionne forming green banks ideal for walks. The surroundings offer meadows, orchards and Norman bocage, accessible via short hiking routes. Far from the bustle, the site favors the observation of waterfowl and relaxation by the river.
Outdoor activities and leisure
Fishing, walks on foot or by mountain bike and short canoe outings on the Risle are easy activities to organize from the center. The trails of the Pays d’Ouche offer loops suitable for families and casual walkers, with viewpoints over the valley and neighboring villages.
