Fort-Mahon-Plage (Somme, France)
Fort-Mahon-Plage is a family seaside resort located on the Picardy coast, overlooking the vast Baie de Somme. Its coastline offers a very large stretch of fine sandy beach, ideal for walking and beach games. The commune combines water activities and wide natural areas, with dunes and characteristic sandbars. People come both for leisure and for the proximity of nature reserves and small bay harbors.
Heritage and history
The seafront developed in the 20th century as a popular seaside resort; seaside villas and holiday facilities can still be seen. The name recalls the former site of a small fort, but it is mainly the resort development and summer life that shape its identity today. The proximity of the bay's historic villages invites cultural outings.
Nature and landscapes
The dunes and sandy bars offer a landscape that changes with the tides. The town borders the Réserve naturelle nationale de la baie de Somme et du Marquenterre, known for its birdlife. In season, the light over the bay creates remarkable panoramas, ideal for photography and outdoor relaxation.
Outdoor activities and sea pleasures
Fort-Mahon is renowned for land yachting, kitesurfing and windsurfing schools that take advantage of the wide beach and wind. Long horseback rides and cycle paths along the coast attract families. At low tide the beach becomes a vast area for sports activities and walks.
