Description

Located in the La Ballastière leisure area in Saint-Martin-de-Sanzay (between Thouars at ~10 km and Saumur at ~20 km), this motorhome area offers self-service waste disposal, a water refill point, electrical hookup and parking on pitches spacious enough for all types of vehicles. Access is controlled by an entrance barrier; garbage collection is provided only if selective sorting is respected. The adjacent body of water, suitable for fishing (short-term permit possible), and the public restrooms around the pond complete the site — a picnic area is present at La Ballastière but not directly on the motorhome area. On site and nearby you will find mini-golf, tennis, a multisport court, trails and cycling routes, as well as shops and restaurants (LE COX IN HELL, CAFE DE LA POMPE, grocery LE CELLIER, LA GUINGUETTE LA BALLU). Local markets run by producers (goat cheese, fruits and vegetables) take place in Montreuil-Bellay on Tuesday mornings and in Thouars on Friday; several nearby wine estates (Domaine du Belvédère, Clos de la Coste, Les Vignes du Bourg Joly) are worth a visit.

Tourisme

Saint-Martin-de-Sanzay (Deux-Sèvres, France)

Small rural village in the northwest of Deux-Sèvres, Saint-Martin-de-Sanzay offers a calm setting typical of the Poitou region. The village unfolds around modest houses and a parish church, with bocage landscapes, hedgerows and meadows dominating the horizon. The population is spread across hamlets; the atmosphere remains agricultural, suitable for slow discovery. It is a discreet starting point for exploring the countryside and the region’s minor roads.

Heritage and history

The village preserves a simple rural heritage: church, old houses and farms that attest to continuous occupation for several centuries. One often sees elements of traditional Poitou architecture, without great splendor but with landscape coherence. Local archives and interpretation panels at the town hall can provide historical markers on the territory’s evolution.

Nature and landscapes

The surrounding bocage offers gentle landscapes: meadows, orchards and hedgerows. These environments support local biodiversity interesting for birdwatching and walks. Small roads and sunken lanes invite hiking or cycling, away from mass tourism.

Outdoor activities and leisure

Hiking, cycling and naturalist spotting are common activities. Families appreciate quiet routes and stops at local producers. More structured options (riding centers, waymarked routes) are found in neighboring communes.

Not to miss

  • Saint-Martin-de-Sanzay (village center): stroll between the church and rural houses.
  • The bocage lanes: walks on foot or by bike among hedgerows and meadows.
  • Local producers: cheeses and farms offering direct sales (check opening hours).
  • Countryside viewpoints: small hills and roadside spots offering fine panoramas.
  • Markets and shops in nearby communes: for fresh products and regional specialties.
