Saint-Trojan-les-Bains (Charente-Maritime, France)
Seaside resort located at the southern tip of the Île d'Oléron, Saint-Trojan-les-Bains charms with its fine sandy beaches, dunes and pine forest. The terrain is low and rolling, bordered by the Atlantic Ocean on one side and quieter wetlands on the other. The village retains a family- and nature-oriented atmosphere, with local shops and accommodations integrated into the landscape. It is a convenient starting point for exploring the rest of the island.
Nature and landscapes
The dune formations and the Forêt domaniale de Saint-Trojan offer long walks or bike rides under the pines. Beaches exposed to the ocean alternate between bathing areas and wilder sections for surf and birdwatching. Sunsets over the marine horizon are frequent and very photogenic.
Outdoor activities
Visitors come for swimming, surfing on the Atlantic beaches and mountain biking on the forest tracks. Shore fishing and coastal discovery outings are accessible at low tide. Trails easily connect Saint-Trojan to neighboring villages on the island for day trips.
Gastronomy and local products
The cuisine relies on marine products from the Île d'Oléron and the Marennes‑Oléron bay, notably the huîtres de Marennes‑Oléron. There are also small restaurants offering fish, seafood and local vegetables depending on the season.
