Font-Romeu-Odeillo-Via (Pyrénées-Orientales, France)
Font-Romeu-Odeillo-Via is a mountain commune located on the Cerdagne plateau, at around 1,800 m altitude. A well-established climatic and winter sports resort, it enjoys remarkable sunshine and a dry air conducive to outdoor activities. The area combines open landscapes, mountain forests and hamlets with a Catalan character. There is a developed year-round tourist offer, between skiing, hiking and scientific heritage.
Heritage and history
The commune gathers traces of the local Catalan identity and facilities linked to the tourist development of the 20th century. The best-known scientific site is the Odeillo Solar Furnace, a unique laboratory dedicated to the study of solar energy and high temperatures. The local built environment remains discreet: chalets, mountain apartment blocks and small village churches punctuate the landscape.
