Anglet (Pyrénées-Atlantiques, France)
Anglet stretches along the Basque coast between Bayonne and Biarritz. A seaside and residential town, it alternates long sandy beaches, maritime pines and lively neighborhoods. The commune is much appreciated by surfers as well as families looking for accessible natural spaces. The Basque influence is clearly felt, without it being a heavily urbanized historic city.
Nature and landscapes
Anglet’s coast offers more than 4 km of beaches, including La Barre and Les Cavaliers, bordered by dunes and a coastal promenade. The Pignada forest protects the coastal districts and provides shaded paths for walking and cycling. The contrast between the open ocean and the pinewoods creates a setting ideal for walks at sunset.
Outdoor activities and surf
Anglet is best known for its surf: schools and clubs welcome beginners and experienced surfers at various spots. The coastal promenade makes roller runs, jogs and bike rides easy. The Golf de Chiberta offers a course facing the ocean for golf enthusiasts.
Heritage and local atmosphere
The town center remains discreet but lively, with districts like Les 5 Cantons where shops and cafés mix. Local architecture combines 19th–20th century villas and contemporary residences. Basque culture is present in the language, crafts and the conviviality of the markets.
Gastronomy
You can taste Basque Country cuisine here: pintxos, jambon de Bayonne, cheeses and seafood. Tapas bars and small restaurants often highlight local products and fresh fish.
