Description
Tourisme
Saint-Gervais-les-Bains (Haute-Savoie, France)
Saint-Gervais-les-Bains is an alpine commune located at the foot of the massif du Mont-Blanc. A spa resort and mountain village, it combines treatments, snow sports and high-altitude scenery. The town is tiered between the valley and high hamlets, offering regular views of the nearby glaciers. Its position makes it a gateway to high-mountain routes and neighboring ski areas.
Nature and landscapes
The landscape is dominated by the Mont-Blanc and surrounding peaks, with glaciers visible in clear weather. Conifer forests, alpine meadows and streams structure the valleys and offer varied viewpoints. Low-altitude walks are accessible from the village; at higher altitude, routes lead to cols and mountain huts in the massif.
Outdoor activities
In winter, Saint-Gervais is part of the Évasion Mont-Blanc area and offers slopes suitable for all levels. In summer, hiking, via ferrata and mountaineering attract walkers and climbers. The Tramway du Mont-Blanc (from Le Fayet station) provides access to higher elevations for walking and ski touring.
Heritage and thermal baths
The town retains the atmosphere of a spa resort with period buildings and treatment facilities. The Thermes de Saint-Gervais exploit the local springs for cures and wellness treatments. The town centre architecture mixes Savoyard chalets and 19th–20th century holiday villas.
Gastronomy and atmosphere
Local cuisine highlights mountain products: cheeses and hearty mountain dishes served in restaurants and inns. The atmosphere remains warm, a mix of spa guests, families and alpine visitors.
