Doussard (Haute-Savoie, France)
Doussard nestles south of Lac d'Annecy, where clear waters meet the préalpine massifs. A human-scale village, it serves as a gateway between the lake and the trails of the Aravis and the Tournette massif. There is a friendly beach, water-sport facilities and remarkable viewpoints over the mountain range. It is a popular place for outdoor activities and quiet stopovers outside Annecy.
Nature and landscapes
The geography of Doussard offers a sharp contrast between the flat shoreline and the steep peaks behind the village. The landscape consists of grassy banks, views of the Tournette and quick access to the forests and pastures of the Aravis. Colors change quickly: summer for the lake’s blue, autumn for the golden hues of the deciduous trees.
Outdoor activities and leisure
Doussard is a base for water sports: paddleboarding, dinghy sailing, kayaking and swimming at the municipal beach. It is also a well-known landing area for paragliding from the Col de la Forclaz, and a starting point for many hikes and bike rides around the lake. Families will find easy routes while hikers can access more technical trails toward the ridges.
Cuisine and local setting
Dining in Doussard reflects Savoyard cuisine: mountain cheeses (reblochon, tomme), local cured meats and dishes like tartiflette or raclette in nearby restaurants. Local markets and traders offer fresh produce and regional specialties for a simple, convivial meal after an active day.
