Pollionnay (Rhône, France)
Pollionnay is a rural village perched in the Monts du Lyonnais, about twenty kilometres west of Lyon. The village retains a country atmosphere, between hedged hills and winding country roads. There are open viewpoints over the surrounding slopes and a quality of air appreciated for nature getaways near the metropolis. The pace remains calm, with local life focused on agriculture and outdoor recreation.
Heritage and history
The village features traditional stone buildings, typical of the communes of the Monts du Lyonnais. The lanes and some rural constructions recall an ancient agricultural history. Local heritage is felt more in the inhabited landscape and scattered farms than in large monumental works.
Nature and landscapes
The hills offer bocage scenery, groves and meadows, with viewpoints over the combes and valleys. Panoramas at sunrise or sunset reveal the distant silhouette of Lyon and neighbouring massifs. It is an area suited to nature photography and bucolic walks.
Outdoor activities
The commune is a convenient starting point for hikes and mountain biking outings on the trails of the Monts du Lyonnais. Marked routes allow loops suitable for families as well as more seasoned hikers. Nearby, cycling circuits make access from the metropolis easier.
Gastronomy and local produce
The proximity of Beaujolais and Lyonnaise cuisine influences the local offer: producers' markets, regional cheeses and charcuterie are readily available. Farm products sold directly are often found.
