Saint-Chaffrey nestles in the valley of the Guisane, at the heart of the Serre Chevalier area, a few kilometres from Briançon. An alpine municipality with a tourist focus, it alternates mountain hamlets and facilities dedicated to winter sports. There is a varied range of accommodation and links to the massif’s ski lifts. Heritage and history

The communal built environment reflects the pastoral history of the Hautes-Alpes: stone houses, steep roofs and small scattered chapels. The village of Chantemerle, an integral part of the commune, retains the atmosphere of a traditional mountain resort. The slopes offer views of the ridges and surrounding massifs, with mountain pastures and high-altitude forests. The proximity of the Parc national des Écrins is felt in the diversity of environments and the presence of mountain panoramas. Sunsets over the peaks are often bright, typical of the alpine climate.
